Jargon buster

There's a whole new world of terminology, abbreviations and jargon that's specific to each individual sector. So we've put together this glossary to define as many of the terms that you're likely to come across as possible.

PGCE - Post Graduate Certificate of Education is a postgraduate qualification at level 7 which leads into teaching. This course usually takes one year after completion of an honours degree at level 6.
PGCert - Post Graduate Certificate can be academic or vocational and usually takes between 9 – 12 months to complete full-time. Completing a certificate can lead to a Post Graduate Diploma.
PGDip - Post Graduate Diploma can be academic or vocational and usually takes between 9 – 12 months to complete full-time.
PhDs - Doctorate of Philosophy usually takes around three years full-time to complete (level 8). Undertaking an original piece of research.
Pre-U - Cambridge Pre-U is a post-16 qualification designed to assess students skills and abilities to study at university.
